Formerly part of Romania, Moldova was incorporated into the Soviet Union at the close of World War II. Although independent from the USSR since 1991, Russian forces have remained on Moldovan territory east of the Dniester River supporting the Slavic majority population, mostly Ukrainians and Russians, who have proclaimed a "Transnistria" republic. One of the poorest nations in Europe, Moldova became the first former Soviet state to elect a Communist as its president in 2001. It is a landlocked nation in eastern Europe with borders with Romania and Ukraine. Its economy is still very much founded in its agriculture which is very varied from wine and sunflower growing through to cereals and arable. |

De exemplu, Sorecarul Mare Buteo rufinus, fotografiat in 2009 in raionul Edinet, a fost un prilej pentru multumiri din partea lui Emanuel Stefan Baltag si Vitalie Ajder, care au realizat un poster pentru Academia de Stiinte din Moldova.
