 birding...

         England General

It is a great thing that all counties are represented here as there are some great clubs and reserves that would be, or already are, well served by web-sites. The Fat Birder is particularly keen to encourage clubs to launch their own sites and for them to let us know if they do. A growing number of counties now have their own mailing groups and use the net to collect data and records..

If any birders out there are thinking of starting a county or club site and want some advice or to be linked up with others of a like mind let us know and email us at bo@fatbirder.com or forward the details via our feedback form. All English counties now have an introduction written by a local birder. All information sections have been updated with 2003 recorder information.

  top sites

England`s Top Sites

Each county has provision for local top sites to be included. Most already have a number listed.

More sites needed

There are, however, a number of counties where no top sites are listed and we invite you to submit some. Please include the two letter, six figure map reference when you email them to us. If you have additional sites in counties where lists do exist, please send details of those in too.

English Nature

National Nature Reserves (NNRs) are places where wildlife comes first. They were established to protect the most important areas of wildlife habitat and geological formations in Britain, and as places for scientific research. This does not mean they are no-go areas for people. It means that we must be careful not to damage the wildlife of these fragile places.

National Organisations

National organisations are listed on the UK page (except where they cover just one of the home nations) - most will also be listed in the county where their headquarters operation is located.

Certificate of Higher Education in Ornithology University of Birmingham

http://www.biosciences.bham.ac.uk/tpd/ornithology.htm
This unique part-time programme is designed to bring bird-watchers up to date with their understanding of bird life. What birds are, their origins, evolution and classification, where and how they spend their lives and the myriad of ways in which birds are adapted to their unique lifestyles; these are just some of the important areas in which fascinating new information and ideas have been produced. This programme will provide an avenue if you wish to become involved in local and national surveys and research projects - to help you make the transition from bird-watcher to amateur ornithologist. It is organised with the collaboration of the British Trust for Ornithology.
