The Wonders of the World Famous Bass Rock Unveiled

The volunteers at the award-winning Scottish Seabird Centre, North Berwick, are hosting a special one-off event on 23 June 2012 that will explore the secrets and mysteries of the world famous Bass Rock.

A Day on the Bass will uncover the geology, wildlife, history and literary connections of the biggest single island gannet colony in the world, with a range of experts from diverse backgrounds that will bring the story of the Bass to life.

The impressive cast list will feature Dr Bryan Nelson, the world’s leading expert on gannets; renowned geologist Dr Angus Miller; former editor of the Edinburgh Evening News, Ian Nimmo; historian Chris Tabraham; councillor Dave Berry plus Scottish Seabird Centre volunteer and guide Maggie Sheddan, who worked with Sir David Attenborough on his visit to the Rock.

Pat Coxhead, the Scottish Seabird Centre volunteer who is coordinating event; said: “The Bass Rock never ceases to amaze people who visit the Scottish Seabird Centre – it is a stunning location that has an amazing history. Our event will delve into all the different facets of the world’s biggest single island gannet colony and it promises to be memorable day, with all proceeds being donated to the education and conservation work of the Centre.”

The event will run from 10:00 to 16:00 and will be held in a marque next to the Scottish Seabird Centre. Tickets are £45 per person (£40 for members) including lunch and entry into the Discovery Centre. There will also be the chance to take a boat trip around the Bass Rock either at the end of the day or on the following day, at an additional cost.
